Linda Purl on “Shall We Dance” [Midnight Caravan Revisited]

8:45 am by Kelly McCready

By now you should have seen some of Lee Lessack’s previous posts revisiting his first album with LML Music. We continue this series by inviting some of our artists to look back through their favorite tracks from the past.

Today we catch up with our good friend Linda Purl on her album Midnight Caravan.

Midnight Caravan salutes the great women singing stars of the 1940s and ’50s–from Ella Fitzgerald to Judy Garland to Rosemary Clooney. This sultry, sexy album conjures a nighttime, Mad Men world where the surroundings are posh, the drinks keep flowing, and nobody goes to bed before three. Previously, we heard from Linda about “I Feel a Song Coming On” and “Them There Eyes.” This week, we talk to her about “Shall We Dance,” another of her favorite tracks from that album.

“It’s a new and super fun twist on a wonderful old chestnut. Desi and Papo rock on the percussion solo!” – Linda Purl.

Linda is of course referring to musician/actor Desi Arnaz, Jr. and percussionist Papo Pepin, both legendary in their own right.

Listen to “Shall We Dance” below.

Next week, we’ll continue this series by looking at yet another song from the wonderful Midnight Caravan. Until then, happy listening!
