In Good Company [Revisited] – “Here’s To You” with Johnny Rodgers

Posted at 8:30 am by Kelly McCready

10 years ago, I embarked on a life-changing artistic endeavor to celebrate the 10th anniversary of my LML Music record label. Under the supreme musical direction of Johnny Rodgers and his amazing band we invited 17 brilliant vocalists to join me in the studio to create “In Good Company”. It’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed and even harder to imagine that LML Music has been around for 20 years! To celebrate all of the above, I am going to share one track each week which I hope you will enjoy.

“Here’s To You” with Johnny Rodgers

Not only did Johnny co-produce this project with me, but he and his band did all of the arrangements and he and my pal Brian Wilson wrote this tune which I was so thrilled to record with Johnny. There wouldn’t be an “In Good Company” if it weren’t for Johnny Rodgers!

Album of the Week – “Easy Come, Easy Go” by Linda Kosut

Posted at 6:36 am by Kelly McCready

LML MUSIC 283Each Tuesday, we are focusing on an album of the week here at LML Music. Last week, we hope you read about Shine: Lullabies for Everyone by Suzanne Jamieson Selmo. This week, we move on to something a little smoother and jazzier. We are, of course, talking about the incomparable Linda Kosut.

Linda’s new album, Easy Come, Easy Gopays tribute to Johnny Green (composer, arranger, orchestra leader, Oscar winner, composer of Body And Soul the #1 song on the Jazz Standard charts).

Linda is not unaccustomed to acclaim, with her first two CDs receiving national acclaim. Life is but a dream, a selection of jazz, pop and folk tunes was named one of the Top 10 CDs of 2003 by Cabaret Hotline; and, Long As You’re Living:  the songs & poetry of Oscar Brown Jr., paid tribute to the late jazz singer, songwriter, and activist, and received both Backstage Magazine’s prestigious Bistro Award – the BMI Award for Outstanding Recording, and two MAC nominations (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs) for Best Female Jazz Singer and Best Jazz Recording.

Feedback for Easy Come, Easy Go has already been stellar:

“Wonderfully winsome, it’s easy to understand why she’s a multiple winner of cabaret performance awards. Undeniably endearing, this disc is highly recommended.”

“Bring Back Romance” with Ann Hampton Callaway

Ann has probably had the biggest influence on my vocal expression. Just listening to her resonate the most glorious of sounds is a master class in song interpretation. We first met in 1992 and i have had the great joy of watching her career rise like a comet and through it all she has remained one of the kindest, warmest and dearest friends one could hope for. What an honor it was to record one of her originals!
